CarlosCarlos moved to East Palo Alto about 2 years ago from New York. He says he was called by destiny and although he likes New York better, California is the place where he feels he can develop his skills for his own future and is happy to be here. He likes to learn from people, especially ones with different thoughts and feelings from his own. He believes in tolerance and developing his own ideas by brainstorming with others. He also likes being around kids. Carlos uses the TAC to email, fax, research information (i.e. stock market), and is here once a day, sometimes twice.

Quote: "It [Plugged In] is a great great spot…You can do your homework here, you can connect with the whole world just sitting right there in front of the computer-that's Plugged In's power, giving you opportunity to connect to the world. Also, I would like to add that Plugged In is the place where you can do job research, send your resume through the fax machine or email … only thing I don't like is that sometimes it's cold here."

Anthony is a 13 year old resident of EPA who is in the 8th grade at Caesar Chavez Middle School. Anthony excels at drawing. It is one of his favorite hobbies alongside video gaming.

He is also a competent user of Adobe Photoshop. Anthony has attended Plugged In's programs for 3 years and enjoys being here to learn new things and be with his friends. Anthony aspires to be a cartoonist when he grows up.

ClaraClara is a computer science and economics major at Stanford. She is President of Stanford IEEE, as well as an officer in the Stanford Society of Women Engineers (SWE) She came to us with the energy, enthusiasm and desire to fully develop and implement a week long technology summer camp for children at Plugged In, that aimed to develop valuable technology skills and good study habits, as well as expose children to the many career paths available in engineering and technology.

Clara recruited 15 other like minded enthusiastic volunteers to help her run the camp, and documented the entire process.

She is now working with us to decide dates for repeating the camp this summer!

Charlotte is 10 years old and has been a member of the Plugged In after school youth program for as long as she can remember (5 years!). Charlotte is a creative technology artist, and a competent user of Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop as well as an accomplished internet user. Her favorite web sites are: Google, for searching, www.ancientegypt.com, and www.pbs.org/kbyu/ancestors.com because she likes to look up her ancestors. Charlotte has not only developed excellent technical skills and computer skills but is now learning how to take on responsibility as a leader. I like to sketch things that are involved with mother nature. I also like to just gaze up into the sky and capture the beauty of it. I like to work hard and accomplish things that I've worked hard on.
I would like to be An Archeologist when I grow up.

In the Fall of 2003, ten Stanford Business School students helped us create a framework to build SELF PACED LEARNING (SPL) classes for our TAC and TAP users. The classes were created collaboratively between the business school students and every member of the production studio team. SPL Classes are now in every TAP. They will soon be provided in both Spanish and English.
