The Technology Access Points (TAPs) are located throughout East Palo Alto in various not-for-profit partner organizations. They are safe, welcoming, "easy to get to" places where all East Palo Alto residents can use technology to further their individual and community goals.

These centers, which offer a productive and stimulating technology-based work environment for the community, are places where community members can learn to use computers, access the Internet, receive online health and other relevant information, engage in civic issues and community organizing, and get practical solutions to everyday problems.

Meet Matthew

Name: Matthew

Duration: Matthew started coming into the TAC two weeks ago.

Frequency: He comes in about every 3 days.

Occupation: Handiman; salesman representative, eventually wants to become a minister

Bio: Eight months ago, one wouldn't recognize Matthew as he is today. He was addicted to drugs and living on the streets. His parents passed away when he was a child and because of an abusive living situation, ran away from his new guardian when he was 11 years old. He stayed with friends and on the streets. Drugs became a part of his lifestyle, until he found faith and turned his life around through the "Step 2" program. He's from Union City, but came to East Palo Alto four months ago to work on the Recovery Project of New Sweet Home in East Palo Alto. He likes to help people and wants to help people recover their own lives.

Quote: "I'm really bad with computers but (Alvin) Tiny helped me and made it easy … or seem easy … Tiny is a wonderful guy. I had a vision of what I wanted but he showed me how to actually put it together."
