The Technology
Access Center (TAC)
is a hybrid library of tomorrow and a self-paced learning
studio. Community members of all ages use state-of-the-art
computers to do online research, work on resumes, complete
homework assignments, and use Plugged In as their virtual
office utilizing our technology infrastructure for everything
from bookkeeping to maintaining their Web site.
Classes are taught in the evenings and range from basic
to advanced computer skills. The Technology Access Center
receives approximately 370 visits each week. For more
information or to find out how you can help, please
contact Alvin Hall at: alvin@pluggedin.org.
The Technology
Access Points (TAPs)
are located throughout East Palo Alto in various not-for-profit
partner organizations. They are safe, welcoming, "easy
to get to" places where all East Palo Alto residents
can use technology to further their individual and community
goals. These centers, that offer a productive and stimulating
technology-based work environment for the community
are places where the community can learn to use computers,
access the internet, receive online health and other
relevant information, engage in civic issues and community
organizing, and get practical solutions to everyday
problems. For more information or to find out how you
can help, please visit http://www.epa.net/taps
The Greenhouse
The Greenhouse is an art through technology program
dedicated to the intellectual, creative, social and
emotional growth of East Palo Alto children. We strive
to create an arena for encouragement of academic excellence,
critical thinking, positive risk taking and the development
of individual talents. The Greenhouse is a fun, safe,
and dynamic environment that inspires children to learn
through both exploration and expression. The Greenhouse
combines access to computer and internet technology
with the arts to create a full production studio that
empowers children to not only be consumers, but also
producers of information. For more information please
contact sanita@pluggedin.org.
Program Structure
The Greenhouse creates a unique blend of structured
classes, homework tutoring, and creative thinking in
art and technology. It operates as an after-school program
and runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 until 7:00pm.
Children participants spend part of each day engaged
in a project creating art through the use of technology.
There is also time for independent exploration in the
arts and technology, as well as a homework-tutoring
component.
