Nick Arnett
Nick is the Director of Business Intelligence Services
at Liveworld. Nick led Verity Inc.'s entry into Internet
products, which now dominate the information retrieval
software market. As senior product manager for its
Advanced Technology Group, he managed the creation and
design of Verity's innovative Knowledge Organizer, a
next-generation server for building and maintaining
information portals. Before joining Verity, Arnett was
CEO of Multimedia Computing Corp., a market research and publishing
company. He was previously an award-winning journalist
with InfoWorld, American City Business Journals and
other media companies. His writing has appeared in publications
ranging from Business Marketing to Variety and Rolling
Stone.
Magda
A. Escobar, Executive Director
Magda is the Executive Director of Plugged
In. She started her work at Plugged In in 1996 as Development
Director. In February 1998, she became Co-Executive
Director and was responsible for managing Plugged In.
Magda started her career as a Team Leader at City Year
Boston after graduating from Stanford in 1992. She consulted
to the Commission on National and Community Service
researching effective models for delivering technical
assistance and training to national service programs
around the country. She continued her work in national
service by becoming the National Program Director at
Public Allies in Washington DC. While there, she helped
expand the program from two to six cities across the
United States.
Muki Hansteen-Izora,
Chairman & President
An East Palo Alto native, Muki served as Director of
Operations, epa.net
and Plugged In Enterprises while at Plugged In from
1994 to 97. Since leaving Plugged In's staff, Muki has
continued to work as a consultant with a focus on the
Digital Divide. His projects have ranged from helping
local job training program OICW start a Cisco/Sun training
academy, to leading an Americorps, United Way and IBM
sponsored initiative to help non profits make effective
use of new technologies. His 3 young children keep him
from taking a breath between projects. He holds a B.A.
from UC Santa Cruz.
Avram
Miller, Chairman Emeritus
Avram is CEO of The Avram Miller Company, a Strategy
and
Business Development Corporation. Avram's involvement
in
East Palo Alto goes back 20 years. As Chairman Emeritus
of
Plugged In, Avram focuses on strategic planning
and fundraising.
Bill Pade, Member
Director, McKinsey & Company, Inc.
Roger
Stern, Secretary
Roger is a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati
in Palo Alto, and got involved with Plugged In very
early on when he handled all of Plugged In's initial
filings as a non-profit corporation. Roger continues
to be Plugged In's principal legal advisor.
Michael Wishart,
Treasurer
Michael Wishart is a Managing Director in the High Technology
Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mike joined Goldman
Sachs in 1999. He began his career at Smith Barney in
1978 and co-founded Smith Barney's West Coast Technology
Finance Practice in 1983. Mike joined Lehman Brothers
in 1991 and served as Co-head of the Global Technology
Group. Mike graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors in
Mathematics from St. Lawrence University and was an
Ernest Arbuckle Scholar at Stanford Business School.
Transactions he has completed with his clients include
venture investments, private placements, initial public
offerings, follow-on financings, divestitures, and strategic
partnerships. Mike served as a member on the Board of
Directors of Brooktree Corporation prior to its sale
to Rockwell. He currently sits on the Board of Directors
of Plugged-In, a non-profit organization dedicated to
bridging the gap between Silicon Valley and the local
community by providing computer training, computer and
Internet access.
Emerick
Woods
Emerick is President and CEO of Vicinity Corporation,
an Internet venture-backed company. Prior to Vicinity,
Emerick was a successful executive and entrepreneur,
having managed and founded several early stage high
technology companies. Emerick has held a variety of
general management and executive positions at Tune-Up,
Quarterdeck, Symantec, Central Point, and Microcom.
He has also held consulting positions at McKinsey &
Company and Booz Allen & Hamilton. Emerick holds
an MBA degree from Harvard Business School and a B.Sc.,
Computer Science degree from Yale University. He also
serves on the Board or Directors of MySoftware, Inc.,
a US-based publicly traded company.
